After Google I/O 2026, the question I get from Shopify founders is not “Is SEO dead?” It is: “Will anyone ever land on my store again?” Fair. AI Mode and information agents can answer the shallow stuff without a click. What they cannot do is show your hero, your grid, and your trust line — unless you publish proof a machine can cite and a human can trust in three seconds.
What I/O changed for a live beauty store (not a media company)
I run Store Upgrade Week — $497, one week, design + build on a live Shopify or Woo URL. My buyer is not hunting “SEO tips.” They have products uploaded and traffic that bounces because the front still reads like a template. Google’s May 2026 direction doubles down on extractable expertise: named author, original process, pages you would defend on a sales call.
That maps to three concrete jobs on the site — not a parallel “GEO” project:
- Desktop and mobile captures on the same URL. Agents and humans both need to see the fold on both surfaces. We ship that in every Look Check and every portfolio sample.
- Before/after on real SKUs, not a rebrand fantasy. Our VelvetCart sample uses the same photos in both mocks — layout and trust change, not a different brand.
- One offer, one price, one week. Commodity “what is conversion rate optimization” pages lose. “Here is what $497 includes on your live store” wins citations and calls.
What we shipped on larelabs.com this week (receipts)
- Full walkthrough — desktop browser + mobile before/after + four distinct stops (look check, before mock, after store, product page).
- Align section — scope walkthrough video, QA walkthrough video, inline journey preview (not a wall of repeated copy).
- Insights in the nav — this blog lane is for authority; the Store Upgrade page is for money.
- Click-through QA before deploy — Playwright follows homepage proof cards and every blog post, not only a hardcoded URL list.
How we write so it does not sound “AI artificial”
I edit everything. If a paragraph could apply to any agency in any city, I delete it. If it names a deploy, a capture script, a failure, or a number — it stays. That is the bar for how we treated I/O on this domain and for every post after.
Your moat is not volume. It is a live URL, mobile + desktop honesty, and a founder who will get on a 15-minute call before you pay.
If your store is live but the front still looks like day one
Drop your URL on Instagram for a Look Check — three fixes, same format as our VelvetCart sample. When you are ready to ship, book 15 minutes with your shop open.
